How Long Will Your Stair Lift's Batteries Last?
Before you buy a battery-powered DC stair lift, you should know how long the batteries will last before they will need to be replaced. DC stair lifts are popular because they will work even during a power outage. However, the batteries will need to be replaced after some time, depending on your usage. Here is a guide to help you figure out how long stair lift batteries should last.
The batteries included with our DC stair lifts are rated for 3,200 cycles. A "cycle" is a one-way trip up or down the stairs, so a round trip up and down the stairs is considered two separate cycles.
- If you make one round trip up and down the stairs every day (two cycles per day), you are making 730 cycles a year. At this rate, the batteries will last over four years.
- If you make two round trips with your stair lift each day, your stair lift is doing 1,460 cycles per year, and the batteries will last a little more than two years.
- If you make three round trips per day, expect the batteries to last about a year and a half.
- If you make four or more round trips per day, expect the batteries to last one year or less.
There are other considerations to make as well. If you don't use the stair lift every day, you still shouldn't expect the batteries to last much longer than four years. If the stair lift is used in an environment that is not temperature-controlled or if the person who uses it is near the maximum weight capacity, the battery will not last quite as long.
If you think you'll be using your new stair lift for three round trips or more every day, you may want to consider an AC-powered stair lift. Although you would not be able to use it in the event of a power outage, you would not have to bother replacing the battery every year.
